I think this is the "final" version of the throughhole Arduino. Changed the resistors to 1/4W, moved everything around a bit to make more room for the ICSP port. Should be fairly easy to solder and might not catch fire. #electronics #arduino

For the second time this year, I've ripped a calf's ear trying to tag it. I *hate* having to tag new born calves. It's horrible that your first interaction with a young creature is to hurt it; and it feels dreadful to interrupt the mother-calf bonding in such a way. I can't believe this is either a humane or a justifiable practice.
Still, it is done, and the tissue sample is taken.

The new calf -- who doesn't yet have a name -- on his feet for the first time, before tagging. He's black, like most of my cattle. The broken umbilicus is still dangling from his navel.
Mother and calf after tagging. He has just one ear tagged, because I failed to keep his head still enough and tag the other ear fast enough, and he moved his head and tore the tag out. Bann Sidh, the mother, is very reasonably looking at me very reproachfully.
